CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR UNIVERSITY ADMISSION: FEBRUARY 2017
INTAKE THROUGH UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
The Catholic University of Malawi invites suitably qualified persons to apply for full
time studies in the various generic degree programmes. Eligible applicants will sit for
University Entrance Examinations on 3rd January 2017, with registration for Entrance
Examination on 2nd January 2017. Names of selected candidates will be released by 21st
January 2017. Those successful shall commence their studies on 6th February 2017.
ELIGIBILITY – WHO SHOULD APPLY
A. Malawi Schools Certificate or its Equivalent
1. Those with MSCE or its equivalent plus credits in six subjects including
English and an aggregate score of not more than thirty (30) points.
2. Those with IGSCE and O-Levels should use the following intepretation: IGSCE
results are reported on an 8-point scale of grades, the following is the Catholic
University of Malawi interpretation of IGCSE results for admission purposes: A* =
1; A = 2; B = 3; C = 5; D = 7; E = 8; F & G; = 9, GCE O-level results are reported on
a 5-point scale of grades and the Catholic University of Malawi interpretation of the
grades is as follows: A=1; B = 3: C = 5; D = 7; E = 8.
3. Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its equivalent should be obtained
in not more than two sittings in the recent past three years.
Qualified and shortlisted candidates shall be required to write the University
Entrance Examinations which will be administered on 2nd and 3rd January 2017.
B. “A” Level Qualification
Candidates with A-Level qualification must have a minimum of three principal passes
with an aggregate of at least 9 points. For purposes of selection, A-Level is interpreted
as follows: A=5, B=4, C= 3. Such candidates do not write the university entrance
examinations.
C. Other Qualifications
The University also considers those with other recognized certificates and diplomas in
relevant areas of study. Candidates who apply using other qualifications are vetted by
respective Faculties on a case-by-case basis. Such candidates are not required to write
the University Entrance Examinations.
INELIGIBLE CANDIDATES
 Candidates with less than credits in six subjects but have obtained credit passes in
four subjects including English can apply for the Bridging programme which starts
on 12th December 2016.
 Candidates, who were withdrawn from the Catholic University of Malawi or any
other institution of higher learning on Academic grounds, ARE NOT ELIGIBLE for
selection.

The Catholic University of Malawi is open to students of all faiths and respects freedom

 Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy)
 Bachelor of Commerce (Banking and Finance)
 Bachelor of Commerce (Business Administration)
 Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource Management)
 Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing)
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English. Preference shall be
given to those with strong credit passes in Mathematics of at least 4 and below.
Faculty of Education
 Bachelor of Arts in Education
 Bachelor of Arts in Education (English)
 Bachelor of Arts in Education (History)
 Bachelor of Arts in Education (Biblical and Religious Studies)
 Bachelor of Education (Geography)
 Bachelor of Education (Mathematics)
 Bachelor of Education (Special Needs)
 Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English
Faculty of Law
 Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English
Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery
 Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English and four other
Science Subjects.
Faculty of Social Sciences
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Anthropology)
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Community Development)
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Development Studies)
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Economics)
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Political Leadership)
 Bachelor of Social Sciences (Social Work)
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English and Mathematics.
For Economics a minimum credit score in Mathematics of 4 or below is required.
Faculty of Theology
 Bachelor of Arts in Theology
Requirement: Credit passes in six subjects including English
METHOD OF APPLICATION
a) Application forms
Application forms are available at the following places: the University Campus,
Montfort-Nguludi in Chiradzulu, the Catholic Secretariat (Area 11, Lilongwe), all
Catholic Diocesan Education Offices (Karonga, Mzuzu, Lilongwe, Dedza, Mangochi,
Zomba, Blantyre, Chikwawa) and Malawi Council of Churches Secretariat, Lilongwe.
Those with access to the internet can download the form by visiting the University
website: www.cunima.ac.mw
b) Application fee
Applicants should pay a non-refundable application fee of MK5000 (for local students)
or USD20 (for foreign students). The University will not receive cash, postal orders or
cheque payment. Instead applicants should deposit the non-refundable application fee
into one of the University’s bank accounts held at the following banks:

c) Submission of Application forms
Applicants must ensure that they submit a complete set of documents as listed below:
i. Completed application form
ii. Copy of certificate or original copy of notification of results
iii. Original copy of the bank deposit slip for the non-refundable application fee
iv. Letter of commitment for financial support

CATERING SERVICES
Catering Services are outsourced to Magic Apron, a private catering company. The
total cost of three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for a semester is MK212, 000.00.
