NUL Director of Security and Safety 2017

The National University of Lesotho invites applications for the position of Director – Security and Safety. Under the supervision of the Vice-Chancellor, The Director – Security and Safety

plans, directs, evaluates and reports on all security and safety measures and operations. Acts as the University’s liaison with local and National law enforcement agencies.

ADMINISTRATION:

Post No. 0036: Director of Security and Safety

1.Key Performance Areas:

1.1Develops and implements security and safety plans and strategies for the University.

1.2Develops and enforces security and safety policies and procedures reflecting best practices for higher education security and safety.

1.3Develops, implements and manages security and safety programs and services i.e. Security issues, fire fighting safety, evacuation plans, and emergencies management.

1.4In collaboration with Human Resources, the Director determines the staffing needs, recruits and provides professional development and monitors the performance of staff under his/her supervision and manages contracted security workforce.

1.5Reviews security and safety incident reports, takes investigative actions, follows up and provides regular reports to management.

1.6Serves as the liaison with all outside agencies on issues of security and safety.

1.7Ensures maximum protection of the University, its staff and students

from criminal acts such as theft, assault, vandalism as well as other

civil

offenses.

1.8Develops crime prevention/reduction, intervention, enforcement

strategies programs and disseminates them to campus community in order to reduce opportunities for crime and inherent risks.

1.9Participates in the planning process for all major activities on campus in order to identify security and safety issues with regard to ongoing projects and on actual events to ensure safety and security of dignitaries and visitors of the University.

1.10Ensures and monitors a high degree of visibility and engagement

throughout the campus, through patrols and surveillance.

1.11Leads in emergencies and crisis, works closely with the Senior Management

on decisions that aim at speedy recovery and resumption of normal business.

1.12Establishes strong relationships with law enforcement agencies as well as relevant neighbourhood community policing bodies.

1.13Participates in committees that deal with health and safety of the University

1.14Works with Insurance Service Providers when dealing with high value theft and safety risk issues.

1.15Oversees and administers the budget of the unit.

1.16Any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

2.Minimum Requirements: Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Administration/policy or related field.

Five years experience in management of policy/security.

Experience:

Five years’ experience in law enforcement agencies. Three of which must be in Administrative or Supervisory responsibilities. Experience in working with culturally diverse staff and students.

3.Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:

Planning and organizing skills.

Demonstrate a high level of negotiating skills.

Proactive in identifying, analyzing and resolving security and safety issues.

Ability to work with diverse groups of students and staff.

Ability to create solid relationships with surrounding community.

Written and oral communication skills.

Good interpersonal skills.

Availability of a valid driver’s license.

Remuneration:

The University offers salaries and other benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment type:

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable for Locals and Contract for Non – Locals.
