The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development exists to promote the establishment and development of a vibrant and well resourced decentralized system of local government for the people of Ghana to ensure good governance and balanced rural based development.
The vision of MLGRD is: “To achieve substantial and equitable economic growth through Citizen Participation and accelerated Service delivery at the Local level within a decentralized environment.”
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) exists to ensure good governance and balanced development of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Areas through:
- The formulation of policies on Governance ( including decentralization policies), Rural/Urban Development and Environmental Sanitation; and Guidelines on the acquisition and use of human and financial resources by Assemblies;
- The development of sector plans; and the provision of management advisory services to the Assemblies.
- The design and delivery of systems to set targets for and monitor the performance of Assemblies.
