Mzuzu University Scholarship For Master of Science in Sanitation Scholarship Fund 2020

By | September 16, 2020

Mzuzu University through the Department of Water and Sanitation is implementing the Global Sanitation Graduate School Project in which the IHE Delft Master of Science (MSc) in Sanitation curriculum is delivered. The Global Sanitation Graduate School is a platform for facilitating the development and empowering dissemination of knowledge on sanitation
through postgraduate programs, online (self-study and instructor-led) courses, face-to-face (on-campus or open distance and e-learning ) courses and tailor-made training so that the sanitation challenges can be embraced with deeper insight, advanced knowledge, and greater confidence. The Global Sanitation Graduate School also provides an enabling
environment for uniting global sanitation experts with a vibrant community of professionals who have completed one or more educational or training courses offered by members of the School.

In this project, Mzuzu University aims at achieving 140 MSc graduates by 2025 to contribute towards reducing capacity gaps in the sanitation sector in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Human capacity is key if Malawi as a country is to achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.

We are targeting 50% males and 50% females. However, the target numbers are not being reached for both groups for various reasons centered around lack of financial resources for tuition, upkeep and research. Most students drop out of their programs or leave outstanding debt with the university. The female group is more vulnerable compared to the males. It is for
this reason that Mzuzu University seeks financial or material contribution towards “Mzuzu University Sanitation Scholarship Fund”, which has been specifically designed to assist students pursuing MSc in Sanitation with special focus on the female students.

Further, Mzuzu University considers your organization as a main stakeholder either on point of social responsibility, policy maker or you implement various sanitation interventions. We would like to call for participants from your organization to undergo MSc training in Sanitation
or short courses within the Global Sanitation Graduate School. The MSc program and short course bring together current sanitation issues and global research perspectives which provide strategic framework for tackling sanitation challenges. It is also possible to have special arrangement with the university to train any specialized cohort based on demand and specified areas of interest.

Mzuzu University is looking for better engagement of stakeholders to validate current research issues and to ensure that the findings are disseminated in the right conference forums and highly referenced peer reviewed journals. We would like to put up a joint effort in working with the community. In terms of technology development, Mzuzu University will utilize stakeholder engagement to provide framework for modeling, piloting, testing and rolling out successful protypes. We believe that, through this process, we can create demand necessary for sustaining current efforts for research and technology development.

Management of Mzuzu University will sign memorandum of understanding with individuals and organizations based on specific arrangements as agreed upon by the parties to guide operationalization of the scholarship fund. We believe that your participation will help accelerate Malawi’s possibilities of meeting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6
by 2030. For this special arrangement, your organization should directly contact Mzuzu University through the following address: –
