Recently, the National University of Singapore (NUS) announced the evolution of the NUS University Scholars Programme (USP) and Yale-NUS College (Yale-NUS) into a New College.

Integrating the strongest and most distinctive features of Yale-NUS and USP, the New College will broaden access to interdisciplinary liberal arts education through multiple pathways and specialisations. Students of the New College will experience the model of immersive, educational experience characterised by an innovative and rigorous common curriculum adapted from the Yale-NUS foundation, residential living and small group teaching.

We are excited about this new journey for the New College which will enable us to offer broader as well as more specialised offerings through a deeper integration with NUS.

The Yale-NUS Class of 2025, who matriculated in Academic Year 2021/2022, will form the final cohort of Yale-NUS students. Yale-NUS will not be accepting applications for the Academic Year 2022/2023 and beyond. Please refer to the NUS website in the coming months for further details on applying to the New College.

We wish you all the best in your university search and application process.

Yale-NUS College is Singapore’s first fully residential liberal arts and sciences college, the dynamic result of a collaboration between Yale University and the National University of Singapore (NUS). Yale-NUS College delivers a distinctive liberal arts education, emphasizing multidisciplinary learning with a research focus. All students pursue the Common Curriculum, which highlights interdisciplinary thought and study over a two-year period; ranging from literature and history to modern social thought, philosophy, quantitative reasoning, and scientific inquiry. Students’ passions are further explored through a chosen major plus optional minor at the end of their second year.

Our four-year, fully residential experience immerses students in a stimulating intellectual setting. It is characterised by small classes, with a limit of 18 students per seminar, and close interaction among students and faculty from around the world. International students represent almost 50% of the student body. The excellent student to faculty ratio, unparalleled international opportunities and avenues to self-directed learning prepare our graduates for a changing world. A strong co-curricular programme ensures students develop the skills necessary to solve complex problems.

At Yale-NUS, we have developed a vibrant community of intellectually curious and passionate individuals who want to make a real difference in the world around them. Our students are often described as daring, smart and tenacious. Our admissions process is based on a holistic review of applications, which provides an extremely thorough and detailed evaluation of each candidate. Maintaining this holistic process is critical in ensuring we select individuals who demonstrate the aptitude and attitude to thrive in our small community.

Responsibilities

The External Reader is responsible for the evaluation of freshmen undergraduate applications predominantly from North America. The External Reader assesses each application against a variety of factors, including the applicant’s academic and personal strengths and weaknesses as well as their potential contribution to the Yale-NUS community. The review process will involve analyzing academic credentials, reading teacher recommendations, essays and other application documents, and providing a summary evaluation and recommendation for each applicant.

The External Reader will be primarily responsible for the first-stage review of applications. Readers with prior experience may be asked to assist with varied tasks, such as the second-stage review of applications or review of applications from applicants in different geographical locations.
