Luanar Hosts Ruforum 13th AGM , 2017

Established in 2004 to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the COMESA countries, the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) held its 13th Annual General Meeting in Malawi from 26th to 27th of October 2017 at BICC in Lilongwe, jointly hosted by the Government of Malawi and Malawian universities, LUANAR in particular.
This year’s AGM provided RUFORUM governing bodies and their partners a special opportunity for a mid-term reflection on the implementation of the RUFORUM Strategic Business Plan while envisioning the future of Higher Agriculture Education and Science, Technology and Innovation Development by 2030 in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 – the Africa we want.
Among the key note speakers at the conference were Minister of Education, Science and Technolgy, Hon. Bright Msaka S.C. LUANAR Vice Chancellor George Kanyama Phiri and Deputy Director General of Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Dr. Daniel Gustafson.
RUFORUM recognized higher education achievers, outstanding farmers and young scientists through the Impact Research and Science in Africa (IMPRESSA ) Awards. The IMPRESSA Awards recognize outstanding university scientists making significant contribution in university leadership, Research for Development, and other contribution to society.
